🚨SHOW UPDATE🚨 A message from Terry Quiett Band:

We are so very disappointed to announce the cancellation of our 10th Anniversary concert at Wichita Orpheum Theatre scheduled for September 24, 2022. Unfortunately, there was an unexpected conflict with the production company providing support for our show. We struggled to find alternative options but were ultimately unsuccessful in finding an adequate solution at this late juncture. This was not a decision we came to lightly.

We understand that this change may cause great inconvenience for those of you who made travel plans and are sincerely sorry.

We share your disappointment, thank you for your understanding, and would like to once again convey our sincerest apologies.

-Terry Quiett Band

If you purchased tickets by credit card, you will be automatically refunded via Select-A-Seat within 10-14 business days. If you purchased with cash or for additional ticket inquiries, contact Select-A-Seat by email at info@selectaseat.com.

You all guessed right! With multiple performances every day, some 17,000 Vaudeville acts performed at Wichita Orpheum Theatre from 1922 through 1929. Perhaps the biggest headlining Vaudeville act that performed on the Orpheum stage was famous escape artist Harry Houdini, who performed a run of shows November 26 through December 1, 1923.

With the 100th birthday of the Orpheum, I decided to post some photos from the week of April 23, 2023 Orpheum Program. Enjoy… The program is chock full of many Wichita business ads.

I am loving all these facts on the Orpheum. I caught the Wichita podcast part 1 and 2, and learned so much about this lovely lady!!

What is located on the floors today?

And you don't even wanna know what was on the second and fifth floors...

The man, the myth, the legend, Mr. Larry White is celebrating 27 years of volunteering at the Orpheum Theatre today!

If you’ve ever been to an Orpheum event, you’ve probably been greeted by Larry.

It’s not a official event at the Orpheum without Larry greeting you at the door. Thank you Larry for the continued support for the Orpheum

Thank you Larry for volunteering at the Orpheum! You make everyone's experience better.

Seeing Larry is a highlight of every visit! The staff is always so welcoming and happy to be there. Thanks for all the memories.

Very nice man! Enjoyed working with him when I volunteered.

He's always so pleasant when he scans me in for movies. A true gentleman!

The Man. The Legend! Thank you, Larry! I remember the night he proposed on stage!

Congratulations, Larry! Keep up the good work. Best volunteer ever!!

Congratulations Larry!!

Very cool 😎 thanks for all your time volunteering!

Always enjoy working with Larry.

Congrats Larry!

That’s my Uncle Larry!

This is a good looking group, isn’t it? We had our annual Volunteer Appreciation Party at INTRUST Bank Arena tonight. We look forward to this event every year as just one small way to say thank you to our incredible team of hardworking volunteers.

Congratulations to our Volunteers of the Year, John and Kathy Kramer, and our top three volunteers for hours worked: Larry White, Marlene Ryan, and Lori Couch.

We’ve said it before, and we can’t say it enough, Orpheum volunteers are the glue that holds us together. We truly could not do what we love doing without them. Next time you’re at an Orpheum show, be sure to thank them as they scan your ticket, serve you concessions, and help you find your seat.

A huge thanks to our ASM Global Live friends for hosting, Nolan Dealy c/o Phillips 66 for funding this event, and to the area businesses who donated gifts and goodies for us to giveaway to our lucky winners.

About 15'-20' west of the bottom car on the right will later be a huge telecommunications manhole coming out of the Bell Telephone building that feeds all of Wichita. I've been underground on that corner many times. They still have wooden conduits with working telephone cables in them under Broadway.

Went there a few years ago at a Johnny Rivers concert it was a great concert.

This is an awesome photo!

So cool!! I love getting to see the history

As we all know, Wichita gets hot in the summer. Ever wonder how Wichita Orpheum Theatre kept patrons cool in 1922? The air-cooling system involved pulling air from outside the building into sheets of water that was purified and cooled before being circulated through the theatre’s ceiling fans. Into at least the 1960s, it was common for theaters to advertise air-conditioning along with their daily features.

My dad (Benton Swart Sr) started his career at the Orpheum. He was a usher and would open the car doors and show people into the theatre. He became a Wichita projectionist as a result, working at the Orpheum several times.

During the theatre boom of downtown Wichita at the turn of the 20th century, ten men formed the Orpheum Building Company and eventually became our first board. Those men were J.O. Adams, Richard M. Gray, Archibald L. Derby, George M. Brown, Walter Vincent, Howard V. Wheeler, Dan Callahan, J. Arch Butts, Walter P. Innes, and Oscar Shirk. Do any of these names seem familiar to the history of Wichita?
