Nacida en el estado de Hidalgo, México, en 1955, Yolanda Jaén López descubrió su pasión por el canto desde muy temprana edad, inspirada por grandes voces como Lola Beltrán, Lucha Villa y Amalia Mendoza. Bajo la guía de su madre quien le educó la voz— comenzó a presentarse en festivales y programas de televisión, donde su talento la llevó a obtener el primer lugar en el concurso “Estrellas Infantiles”.
Su carrera profesional despegó al firmar con RCA Victor. En 1972, su sencillo “La Hija de Nadie” se convirtió en un fenómeno, alcanzando un récord al superar el
millón de copias vendidas en tan solo sus primeros seis meses y catapultándola a la fama internacional. Desde entonces grabó decenas de álbumes, participó
en numerosas películas y se posicionó en las listas latinas de Billboard, llevando su música a México, Estados Unidos y toda Latinoamérica.
Reconocida con discos de oro y platino y con el Premio Nacional de Cultura Popular otorgado por el Senado de la República Mexicana, Yolanda del Río es hoy un referente indiscutible del género ranchero. Su voz potente y emotiva, además de su defensa de la mujer a través de sus canciones, la han convertido, con todo merecimiento, en “La Gran Señora de México”.
Born in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico, in 1955, Yolanda Jaén López discovered her passion for singing at a very early age, inspired by great voices such as Lola Beltrán, Lucha Villa and Amalia Mendoza. Under the guidance of her mother — who trained her voice — she began performing at festivals and on television, where her talent earned her first place in the contest “Estrellas Infantiles”.
Her professional career took off when she signed with RCA Victor. In 1972, her single “La Hija de Nadie” became a phenomenon, setting a record by selling more than one million copies in just its first six months and propelling her to international fame. Since then she has recorded dozens of albums, appeared in numerous
films, and charted on Billboard’s Latin lists, bringing her music to Mexico, the United States and all of Latin America.
Honored with gold and platinum records and with the National Award for Popular Culture granted by the Senate of the Mexican Republic, Yolanda del Río is today an undisputed icon of the ranchera genre. Her powerful, emotive voice and her advocacy for women through her songs have rightfully earned her the title of “La Gran Señora de México”.
